The Great Betrayal

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has just been taken to intensive care a day after being admitted to the hospital. Elsewhere in the developed world, Covid19 continues to ravage lives, economies and livelihoods in a sign that this pandemic is no respecter of persons, economies or status.

Meanwhile in Africa and on our social media platforms, we are seeing the greatest betrayal of Africans by some political, religious and community leaders who are advancing stupid conspiracy theories about 5G, and fighting an imaginary war about Africans being forced to take vaccines, instead of using the time we have somehow been given to prepare.

As a person of faith, I attribute the fact that we have been spared up to now to God’s infinite mercy, because if there is a continent that would be wiped out by such a pandemic, it is Africa. Cases are beginning to rise in Africa, but the great tragedy will be when millions die whether from this pandemic or future ones because we did not use the time we had to prepare.

I see a lot of Africans blasting western leaders who are not medical doctors for giving uninformed medical opinions, while they themselves advance bizarre theories they know very little about. Of course, racists will always be there who will want Africans to be treated as guinea pigs. The truth however is that the whole world will need a vaccine against such diseases, and that while we must reject the attempt to tie this need to the satanic surveillance of all people through implantation of chips, vaccines save lives. The majority of us, including politicians, religious and community leaders are alive today because we were vaccinated against hepatitis, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, polio, measles etc.

We know what has happened in the past when vulnerable groups have been subjected to experiments because they did not have the power to resist. There is the infamous case called the “Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male” in the US. Black leaders and professionals, including the leaders of the Tuskegee Institute founded by Booker T. Washington, were involved in that study, so we must never underestimate the capacity of our own people to collude with evil. Part of their motivation was desperation for funding for their institute.

Our people become vulnerable to abuse when they are reduced to desperation. Just as we accepted the plunder of our resources by unscrupulous “investors” from the East because we were desperate for investment, the danger is that when we are desperate, we will accept any medical intervention, even when it is unethical. When people are dying in droves because they were misled, we will be desperate. It is the misleading of others by any of us that is the real betrayal.

The adage is true: prevention is better than cure. Many who are currently deathly sick would not be sick today if there had been a vaccine. Most of our frontline workers, our nurses, doctors, first responders would not contract Covid19, many who have died would not be dead if there had been a vaccine. The reality is that most conspiracy theories are easily debunked by what unfortunately has become missing in our discussions: Common Sense. That’s what would stop the spread of the other virus which is equally deadly which is being spread by the selfish and self-important opinion leaders who pretend to know what they do not know, the virus of misinformation and ignorance. It is deadly and must be stopped.

Is There not a Cause?
