COVID-19 In Zimbabwe now at 23: Bulawayo Lead in cases as they start Testing


Bulawayo is fast becoming a host spot of the corona virus in Zimbabwe with 10 positive cases out 23 of countrywide confirmed cases.

MPILO Hospital in Bulawayo started testing for Covid-19 this week starting with Zimbabweans who arrived from Botswana and were put in mandatory quarantine by the government. The National Tuberculosis Referral Laboratory is were testing of samples taken from Matabeleland provinces is carried out. In the past, samples from Bulawayo/Matebeleland were being sent to Harare, with results taking up to four days to be released. In Harare the National Microbiology Reference Laboratory at the Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare was the first testing center for COVID-19 in Zimbabwe.


The Permanant Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Mr. Nick Mangwana expressed concern on the high figures coming from Bulawayo from such a small sample. On 15 April Bulawayo, 5 of the 23 tested sample were confirmed positive, and all due to local transmission.
